NASA develops complex software as part of its work in air traffic management. Several NASA processes and requirements ensure that its software is of the highest standards and supports the mission of its projects and programs.

Projects in this area may provide technical leadership and expertise to support safety and mission assurance (S&MA) work for NASA’s ATM research such as:

  • Creating the Software Development Management Plan for each research effort and sub-project.
  • Creating the NPR 7150.2D Software Assurance Compliance Matrix for each ATM sub-project.
  • Maintaining and updating the ATM Software Development Management Plan.
  • Ensuring project compliance with relevant NASA requirements such as NPR 7150.2D
  • Supporting ATM subprojects subject to Ames’ audits such as the Quality Audit, Assessment and Review (QAAR)
  • Supporting ATM projects requiring internal audits such as the Functional Configuration Audit (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audit (PCA)
  • Collaborating with the project software manager to define and establish technical processes for the ATM project such as managing the process for Software Assurance, Software Classification(s) and safety critical assessments.
  • Updating, reviewing and monitoring adherence to the ATM-X Project Software Assurance Plan.
  • Ensuring compliance with NASA Software Assurance and Software Safety Standard 8739.8.
  • Coordinating software assurance plans with Code AF Software Assurance manager and Code QS and ensure its alignment to NASA software assurance standards.
  • Assisting ATM sub-projects with software assurance planning and implementation.
  • Conducting software assurance audits for the ATM project and sub-project software managers, and reporting on results.
  • Tracking and reporting software assurance metrics.
