NAMS-2 researchers are conducting research in partnership with airline service suppliers to digitally transform the National Airspace System (NAS) to integrate traffic management for unmanned aircraft systems.
Researchers are developing a reference implementation of a digital information platform (DIP), built mostly by industry, with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) providing operational experience and expertise. This platform serves as the infrastructure that takes data from multiple sources and turns it into easy-to-use and accessible digital information for airspace services.
Researchers will collaborate with service suppliers, NASA, FAA and airlines to test the reference DIP, with evaluations scheduled throughout the DIP lifecycle to demonstrate quantifiable benefits to the airlines and to new entrants, including technologies related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
