NAMS-2 team member, Dr. Bhoomin Chauhan, collaborated with the San Francisco Police Department in support of public safety operations research

As part of public safety operations conducted Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS), Dr. Bhoomin Chauhan collaborated with San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD’s) Drone Unit in support of public safety operations research at NASA Ames Research Center. He interacted with officers from the SFPD Phoenix Unit, which oversees their drone-as-first responder (DFR) program on a live mission to understand how SFPD has integrated BVLOS operations. In an early demonstration of an effective use of the DFR program, after a call to the DFR operators to track a stolen car, the drone operators took off and were able to visually identify the car in less than two minutes!
