Research on digital twin operations, machine learning (ML), predictive analytics, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) seek to improve NextGen capabilities and meet future aviation demands and opportunities of airspace operations.

Projects in this area may focus on:

  • Providing technical expertise and supporting the development of concepts, including feedback to use cases and concept documents.
  • Developing initial algorithms and models to capture essential air traffic management (ATM) functions digitally, such as Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) or Letters of Agreement (LOAs) for the Digital Twin system, utilizing ML/AI or natural language processing (NLP) methods where applicable.  
  • Providing software development, testing and models for prototype digital software application.  
  • Providing technical training on tools and software for research participants.  
  • Designing prototypes based on feedback from NASA researchers, project liaison and subject matter experts.
